  • THE CENTER FOR ENERGY RESEARCH/EDUCATION/SERVICE (CERES)
    The Center for Energy Research/Education/Service at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana is an interdisciplinary academic support unit focused on issues related to energy and resource use, alternatives and conservation.

The labs are funded in part by BetterBricks, a unique program of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance to encourage commercial building professionals such as architects, building owners, operators, and developers to build more energy efficient buildings.

    The Lighting Design Lab is sponsored by the electric utilities of the Pacific Northwest. The Lighting Design Lab, located in Seattle, works to transform the Northwest electric lighting market by promoting quality design and energy efficient technologies.

  • PACIFIC ENERGY CENTER
    The Pacific Energy Center offers educational programs, design tools, advice, and support to create energy efficient buildings and comfortable indoor environments. Most of their efforts are focused around commercial buildings.

    Available services:
    • Heliodon for Shading Studies. The heliodon simulates sunlight penetration and shading for any combination of site location and time for a building scale model.
    • Daylighting Initiative. The Overcast Sky Simulator is used to analyze the impact of diffuse daylight in terms of measured daylight factors and subjective analysis of daylight distribution.
    • Solar Geometry & Radiation Calculators. The Pilkington Sun Angle Calculator, the PEC Sun Chart, and the PEC Solar Geometry Calculators are useful tools for looking up sun angles when designing shading devices and overhangs.
  • PORTLAND DAYLIGHTING LAB
    Researchers use the artificial sky, heliodon, boundary layer wind tunnel, and computer simulations to recommend proposed building design changes to maximize daylighting, ventilation, and energy efficiency strategies. The Daylighting Lab is a resource of BetterBricks, a unique program of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance to encourage commercial building professionals such as architects, building owners, operators, and developers to build more energy efficient buildings.

  • SEATTLE DAYLIGHTING LAB
    The Seattle Daylighting Lab is a member of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance's BetterBricks Lab Network. The Lab provides daylighting information, education, and tools for assessing daylighting design decisions.

    The Seattle Daylighting Lab is staffed by an experienced team of daylighting consultants and daylighting interns who have been given the responsibility of providing consulting services to the Pacific Northwest design community. The Lab is unique as a fully funded hands-on consulting team working in direct collaboration with leaders in the architectural community.
